We have a client who wishes to sell their full size snooker table
the table is in natural light solid oak finish and is in the style of Arts and crafts confirmed date of manufacture is  1956
the table has now been professionally dismantled and stored in our clients Garage by GCL billiards , my opinion of the table is that the woodwork is in very good order , just requires waxing , the cloth replacing and also the rubber in the cushions has to be replaced , the nets and leathers require replacing and maybe ball rails in place of bag nets ? the shade has now been scrapped .
A very good Burroughs and watts Steel vacuum cushioned table , with 2 inch thick Welsh slate in very good order. would make a very nice table for someone requiring one of the better made tables that is up for sale .
Every nut and bolt is present with the table as are all knee panels , nothing is missing .
the Vintage maker of this is Burroughs and watts , a well respected manufacturer in the Billiards and snooker industry right up to when they ceased trading in the 1960s  , and not to be confused with a modern firm still using that name .

the woodwork looks in extremely good condition and i would say it has only seen private use from new which would be circa 1930’s
A good waxing is all that is required to keep the vintage patina of this period table .
But I would say from a professional Billiards fitters eye that the cushions may require a re-rubber , and the cloth is faded so it will require a new cloth .
You may want to just wax the leathers and keep the period billiards nets , or replace with new nets and leathers and ball rails

the table is located in South London very close to Brixton. We dismantled the table on a Sunday and getting to the address was simple as we set off Early , but Traffic had built up by 1 pm and it took us a while to work our way back up to the M1 for our return journey back to Nottingham .

AS A SEPARATE SALE

As a separate sale there is a very special life pool scoreboard which the owner has taken a like to and may keep it , I would value the scoreboard at £1000 if taken with the table and maybe more if sold separate  ,
at least twice as much as the table which just shows the value of second hand tables and rare pieces such as this scoreboard .
The  scoreboard comes complete with lower rare to find complete cabinet , there are many of these scoreboard which are called Life Pool boards for sale from just £450 in rough condition upwards to over £1500 , this just requires a few new ivory buttons on the slide out panels each side of the board which are missing . apart from that is looks complete and original
this board , is an 8 player board . you can get them in 10 and 12 player boards with penny slots on , but this one has it’s original lower cabinet which is rare to find .
The owner has discounted the sale of the table to sell quick , but on advice he may or may not sell this scoreboard , it is up to any buyer to negotiate this if he wishes to buy .

We have a client close to ~Stoke on Trent who wishes to sell their full size snooker table
Although we say snooker table  , some may say this is a Billiards table because of the top plate pocket plates having fingers of brass showing on the top cushion surround
but in fact there is no such thing as a snooker table as snooker is a game you play on a billiards table  , my job title is billiards fitter not snooker fitter .
Many people because snooker became more popular from the 1930’s and Billiards fell behind in popularity have renamed  full size tables as snooker tables when to be more accurate they are still billiard tables in design
they have 8 legs , they are 12 ft by 6 ft approx and have 6 pockets .
Even the English dictionary states there is a snooker table , but if you ask any time served billiards fitter they will all say the same as me there is no such thing as a snooker table !
So after that little explanation I will now get back to the description of our older pre 1895 billiards table .
You can date this table to pre 1895 because after that year all tables where made with concealed pocket plates fixings where no Brass finger is present on top of the wooden cushion capping

this table I would date to around 1885/90 , thin victorian legs with top plates , it may be one of the Northern makers tables as I do not put this leg design to the main players such as Orme  / Stevens and sons or Burroughs and Watts , it may be a Thurston though ?
there is a re-rubber plate on one end from a firm in Manchester , these are put on at the other end of the table when a firm replaces the rubber in the cushions , and most say Improved cushions by  – or a name of the cushion like the speedy reliable cushion or the Empire Match cushion , these where all fancy names made up by firms when in fact they used the same rubber .

the table comes complete with more modern scoreboard , this was probably made in the 1940s /1960’s period.

I would say this table will require some work in the future , but it can be dismantled and set back up with the same cloth back on , just ask Geoff at GCL Billiards for a quote to do this
the price for this table is very reasonable £200 including all accessories that are in the room with it , such as shade and cues plus balls etc .
Of course any dismantle removal costs is not included in that price , so please contact Geoff at GCL Billiards for a price for this .
This table is on a Ground floor outhouse Building and I have been assured there is parking close by and concrete from building to the parking space , so moving the table is not  a problem and is just a two man job with the right tools and trolleys .

We have a client in wales who wishes to sell their full size snooker table
the table is located in Cardiff
From the photo’s I can inform any buyer that the table looks immaculate
the polish is in very good order , although a personal inspection of cloth and rubber bounce would be advised.

The table is a Burroughs and watts , the end plate is advertising a re-rubber that was carried out , this was done pre 1968 , after this date Burroughs and watts where bought out by riley and the firm became Riley Burwatt
table will also come with the lighting shade and a scoreboard and all accessories , of which you will have to discuss with the seller .

as you can see from this photo , the table has the Standard cushions and not the steel block type,
these cushions are more easy to maintain than steel cushions

the side shot of the table shows the very nice turned leg ,

Our client says this is an antique  cue holder .
in over 40 years of working on antique tables I have never seen a free standing cue holder as small as this , the stand is sitting in a window , and the handles of the window give you an idea of size.
It maybe for another use , as I would not store cues upside down with the tip in those small holes , the weight above will warp the cue , someone may have sold this as a cue rack to our client ?
it just may be a cue rack but from the photo I cannot see how it works !

from this last photo , it appears the table may be in an upstairs location , this will mean extra men to get those heavy slates downstairs ,

We have a client who wishes to sell their 9ft snooker table
the table has all accessories included with it , including an Iron .

A full photo of the table , this table has the nice carved Tulip legs and the large pocket Billiards bag nets which would have been original type of net fitted for Billiards
You could convert to ring nets with rails if you so wish , but older pre 1895 tables which this one is , would have had the pocket bag nets on when first manufactured.

the cushions also have buttons that cover the cushion bolts , again this was normal to see these buttons on this age of table , as snooker tables evolved they used slide in panels to cover these bolts over.

We have a PRIVATE SALE  client who wishes to sell a 10 x 5 foot snooker table
the table is of modern manufacture and has a 5 section slate bed over a 6 legged frame .
please study the photo’s , the table looks in excellent condition and the cloth looks hardly played .

As you can see from the photo above the table looks immaculate , I am informed by the owner it has hardly been used .
TABLE WILL COME COMPLETE WITH ALL ACCESSORIES THAT WHERE SUPPLIED WITH THE TABLE FROM NEW INCLUDING BALLS SCOREBOARD AND CUES & RESTS .
the table will be sold with the cloth that is already fitted to the table , this cloth can be re-fitted by a competent billiards fitter , Geoff Large  will advise you and recommend  GCL billiards to carry his work out for any buyer .

The table has legs that resemble a Riley Regis  shape.
and it has an attractive molding on the lower edge of the cushions

and the joints in the slates show it has 5 sections these will be around 1.5 inch thick

Just £350 will buy you a nice Standard Cushioned Riley Aristocrat with fluted legs and archways .
The table is located in Northallerton in North Yorkshire .

We have a client who wishes to sell his Riley Aristocrat .

The table has been carefully dismantled and all parts are present . but no bed cloth !
The table is stored in a Garage lock up and anyone with a large enough van can collect , my client is willing to help load .
so it is a simple to just back up load and take away .
you could then get Geoff at GCL billiards to give you a price to set the table back up with a re-cover and new nets and leathers which we would recommend .
We could also quote for a pick up and delivery  if you wanted a more complete delivery and set up package

6 pockets and rails , the nets and leathers could do with replacing .

8 nice fluted Aristocrat legs , you can spray them silver if you wish along with the archways on the side and end frame and the slide in cushion panels if you wanted it to look like a Riley match Aristocrat TV table
I always said the silver ones where low quality wood , why hide good wood with silver paint , it was only done for the TV tables .

Two long side frame and two end frame parts 8 brass hooks are also supplied with the table to bolt through these parts  , you can spray the arch part silver is you wish , but I prefer them all wood.

Long Tackle triangle and balls complete the package , there is also a Scoreboard and lighting shade and silver dust cover .

Please note the table has no Bed cloth but it re-quires a new cloth so this has been taken into account in the for sale price of just £350 .

Above photo , The table will look like this identical table that we moved only this week , although the table being sold has lighter woodwork that shows the grain much better than this dark Mahogany one

 

if you sprayed the legs with halfords silver paint and also the Buttons slide in panels and trim parts as pictured , then sealed with clear spray on lacquer , you could have something that looked like this table
all snooker table assembled photo’s are Library photo’s please look at the parts photo’s for the actual shade of wood colour ,and the actual table  that is for sale , it is more of a mid shade Mahogany than Dark .
the Dark ones do not show the natural beauty of the wood grain .
If it was my table I would leave it as it is and just wax it , and buff it up .

We have a new Client who wishes to sell a nice modern Riley Genuine 3/4 sized snooker table
This leg design was introduced around the 1980’s , I think it was called the Aristocrat all though it is nothing like the more modern Aristocrat of later years.
I have worked on this design of table in the past , and it has a unique toe piece cover at the base of each leg which is sprayed gold .
This toe piece cover hides unsightly packing pieces that the Billiard fitter place’s under each leg to level the table , the round packing pieces are called Toe pieces hence the name Toe piece cover.
this cover slides upwards into a routed recess within the leg and slides down to the carpet or floor to give the table a much neater appearance .
I am sorry that we only have j.peg photo’s of the table at the moment , my client is going to send larger photo’s later , but I thought being as it is a 9ft and the sought after size I would get it listed as soon as possible.
9ft tables sell more quickly than full sized tables due to so many full size tables around for disposal and too few people requiring them and most people do not have room for one , but the 9ft and sometimes a 10ft are in more demand
therefore they do not stay advertised long , I expect this table to sell very quickly . So be quick if you require a quality made table like this one .

Cloth may require a re-cover but this is down to any buyer if he needs it .

the whole table , I have been informed that this table is a 5 section slate bed just like a full size table , normally 9ft tables have a three section slate
This makes the table ideal for an upstairs location as each section of slate weighs much less than a three section slate .

The table may require a re-cover ( buyers choice) and the wood looks a little faded at the window end , but at just £700 the seller has taken these things into account

this table when new would have been around £3000 fittted
Please note this table is made from Quality wood and slate , more modern tables made today are sourced from China and do not have the build Quality of this table both in materials used and quality of craftsmanship.
therefore we ask do not compere it with these lower Quality tables made in china , this table is a genuine Riley made in the UK .

This table has Steel plated cushions , normally described in the billiards trade as Steel blocks , these where invented around 1895 and used by Burroughs and watts right up to the 1960’s when they where bought out by Riley .

Included in the sale is all the accessories that are displayed on the table including the Iron.
