Relocating a full Size Snooker Table from Mansfield to Lincoln
Yesterday we completed a re-location of a full size snooker table from Mansfield to Lincoln, the client is highly delighted with the work , and he is delighted that he found the table at a very reasonable price and local to him through our search for sale system which is in our blog section.

on installation 2nd photo , we where met with a house that was being renovated and extended , with three steps down from one level to another , we managed with a little help from the Builders who where still on site to get the slates down the three steps.

Not all tables are the modern type that we undertake to recover , many tables from the 1970s/80s are still going strong in pubs and clubs , plus private houses .
Many people use the word Baize to describe the cloth on cue sports tables , this in fact is wrong as the cloth is simply called napped Billiard Cloth , Baize is a cloth that is put on notice boards or card tables .
Although many call the cloth used on snooker and pool tables baize and in dictionary’s it also refers to snooker or billiard cloth as being baize ,
Also in the dictionary it also states that snooker is played on a snooker table , but in fact there is no such thing as a snooker table as it was Billiards that was first played and so they should be refered as BILLIARD TABLES , and you play the game of snooker on a billiard table . nothing has changed in the design from a billiard table apart from pocket plates and cushions over the years , apart from that the design is a billiard table .
But as many now refer to them as snooker tables the wording has stuck , so we now call them Snooker tables . and so it is the same with the cloth many people refer to it as Baize.
The word baize often used to describe cue sports cloth is just a metonymy which means it is a thing or a concept not called by its real name . look at the link for the manufacturers description , you will note they state Billiard cloth and not billiard baize.

This week I had a lady phone me up and ask me to RE BAISE her pool table which was badly faded from sun light .
At GCL Billiards we aim to prolong the lifespan of the older tables ,just like this Hazel Grove superleague which is still in remarkable conditon cabinet wise , the table is located in a conservatory and the cloth is faded to almost yellow creamy white .
The clients bought the table many years ago second hand for their sons 18th Birthday and he is in his 30s now .
after a Re-cover in Strachan cloth the table looks almost new . the hazel grove Super league was the rolls royce of pool tables during the 70s and 80s , they are still manufactured today as a traditional turned leg cabinet design .
Very busy month for November, but we are still taking bookings for work
Looks like we are about to get very busy for the month of November. Some of the work booked in:
- 3 re-rubber + re-cover snooker tables.
- 6 american pool table dismantles, then put back up plus re-cover all 6.
- 3 local full size snooker re-covers + another re-rubber to match size.
- 1 total renovation of 10ft snooker table re-polish and re-rubber, nets leathers
- 3 tables dismantle and load.
- 1 table move from Nottinghamshire to Lincolnshire.
- 1 re-cover and one stretch.
- 1 pool table sold and deliver local.
Plus loading various snooker tables around the UK for their slates to use on a kitchen floor. It’s a shame but the slate is now worth more in scrap value than trying to sell the table as an item for use on ebay.
Add to this list our special offer of pool table re-cover and re-rubber work which is bringing in regular work now the winter pool leagues have started. Looks like it’s a 7 day week for the whole of November and thats good news for GCL Billiards and Double8pooltables.

For Sale 9ft Riley Snooker table, another Genuine 3/4 size
Due to people now logging into the website for our FREE FOR SALE blog, we are having many enquiries to advertise snooker tables for sale.
So we now have two 9ft tables on the web site for sale by private sellers, this newly listed 9ft snooker table is based near Burnley.
The photos tell the story, a very nice condition circa 1910/1920s Riley Billiard snooker table. I have not seen the table for a close inspection but from the photos it looks in very good condition and is in a dry warm room. It has had a re-rubber some time ago by Willie Smith of Leeds, the Smith badge looks around 1950/60s, but it may have been rerubbered again after that. There is a genuine original Riley cushion badge that looks to be made out of Ivory. The seller is looking for offers around £1700.
Due to other firms getting in touch with our clients who are selling tables on this Blog (and trying to get the work for transporting and set up) I am now taking all enquiries for all of the for sale Snooker & Pool tables advertised on GCL Billiards blog. I will then pass on any genuine details to the seller and buyer, who I hope will use GCL Billiards qualified billiards fitting team to move the table. A man and a van and his mate is not the way to move these tables, they require expert workmanship in both the dismantling and loading, plus the important set up and leveling of the table making sure the cloth is fitted correctly and all slate joints are level and all bolts torqued up to the correct tension. Only a time served Billiards Fitter can do this to a high standard .

NOW SOLD Burroughs and Watts 9ft x 4ft – 6 inch snooker table , a genuine 3/4 sized .
SOLD SOLD SOLD . this 3/4 sized table is off to Perth in Scotland on the 11th of November 2013 to a holiday let and will now be enjoyed by people renting out the Holiday let.
We have had some very nice 9ft tables sold on GCL billiards web site , they are sought after and we do get people phone and email us asking if we have any for sale .
they are a popular size , as many people have room for a 9ft table but not a full size .
I have been instructed to advertise a very nice 3/4 sized Burroughs and Watts Snooker table , these 9ft tables are getting harder to locate , there are many full sized tables on the market but very few 9ft or 10ft tables around .
Burroughs and watts where one of the best Manufacturers of billiard and snooker tables in the 1800/1900s this table being from the period of circa 1910/20.
I have valued the table at £1000 to £1500 , but the owner is willing to listen to offers as they require the room for other use , the table is at this moment still in use so can be seen and tried out before purchase , the table is located in the Ashbourne area of Derbyshire .
As can be seen from the photo’s below the table comes complete with antique scoreboard and a modern cue stand , the table may require some work , it all depends on the Clients requirements.
9fts of this quality do not come on the market often.

Wanted: oak 9ft / 10ft or 12ft full sized Snooker table , THIS CLIENT HAS NOW LOCATED A TABLE THROUGH GCL BILLIARDS !
I have another client who wishes to purchase a 9ft /10ft or full size snooker table before Christmas. He would prefer an oak table, he is not sure if he would like a smaller 9ft or 10ft or go for a full sized 12ft table. The room used to have a full size table in there, but he just wants what comes along in good condition. He has just bought the house and is not what you describe as a keen snooker player, but likes the idea of a games room and just wants to put something in. A 3/4 sized table would give him a bit more room so that is why he is not too bothered as to the size of table.
So there you go, if you have an oak table for sale in any of the sizes listed, then he would be interested in buying it. The room he has is being renovated at the moment and he requires the table for around the beginning of December, so any seller must be prepared to keep the table until then.

Another snooker table to pick up, transport and re-rubber etc.
The week is starting off very well for us. A local removals firm has been in touch to book our services in the dismantle of a full size snooker table for this Thursday. As we dismantle the removal firm’s crew will wrap each part and load onto the van for transport to the new owners house. We may yet also get the job of installing the table at the other end.
A square leg Karnhem and Hillman table
Also a client who had been in touch looking for a 10ft table has secured one that I had spotted on ebay, a very nice 10ft Karnhem and Hillman table with square legs for that contemporary look. I have to travel up to Glasgow to pick this table up, bring back to the workshop, re-rubber, re-cover, maybe new nets and leathers, fit new modification of adjustable muntins (slate supports) and then deliver to Dagenham near london to set up in the client’s brand new games room.
