Very nice 1880s circa period Thurston Oak full size antique Billiard table …….NOW DONATED TO CHARITY

Now donated to A Midlands School and Church small break holiday meeting centre Charity
Who are very grateful for the table and will put it into use at the centre .

Very rare to find one as good condition as this in OAK , most are Mahogany
I would say only 10% where made in Oak .
With a very good well known billiards firm of Thurston’s manufacture .
one of the best and still surviving Billiards firms that was founded in 1799 .
This one is one of the original 4 piece 1 inch thick slate bed type which dates this table to around the 1880s period .
maybe the back end of 1870s ?

BUT the royal warrant of Queen Victoria was first used as on the ivory cushion badge of this table in 1837
So it could have been made as early as that date . but I think back then it would have been three section slate beds and not four like this one so my dating is from the 1870 / 1880 period .

circa period of 1870s where Horse and carts back then to transport tables so slate was not as thick as todays tables which came about later on in the 1890s as motorised transport came along , but they did put extra muntin slate supports in the thinner slate beds to stop any distortion or slate sagging this tbale has 6 slate support muntin’s , modern tables only have three . , this table is ideal if you have not got a solid floor , as you can have problems with heavy slate bed tables on wood floors .

Also good for getting upstairs , as much thicker slate bed tables will press down on upper timber floors and you get levelling problems on beamed floors that are upstairs with thicker slate beds .

The table belonged to a family member who has passed on and was put into Storage in Nottingham when the estate was sold on , the family would now like to see the table put into some use , it was never going to be sold as they had plans to re-use it at a later date , and now because they moved to live in Australia , it has to be sold on as the cost for shipping over there is a no go .

We are looking for offers for this table .
, REMEMBER RARE OAK ONE , NOT ONE OF THE HUNDREDS OF MAHOGANY ONES BEING SOLD .
To make a table like this today in solid oak you would be ,looking in excess of £12000 upwards .

We will entertain all offers and put this to the family .
But please note you do not come across table in this condition that has been professionally dismantled and stored in nice dry conditions no damp garage as many are stored in , the removal’s firm that stored it have a very good reputation for looking after Antiques and Billiard / Snooker tables and even Grand pianos , and together with TWO professional time served billiards fitters this was carefully dismantled and blanket wrapped and transported with care into storage .

Sorry we have no full photos of the table set up , only in dismantled and stored form of which I pulled a leg out for reference and one end cushion .
I will ask around my fellow billiard fitters to see if they have one of the same design as a library photo to use all though they may show that in mahogany rather than oak like my selling clients table for sale here .

** There is also a fibre glass lighting shade with the table .
And some long rest tackle .

** THERE IS NO SCOREBOARD WITH THE TABLE

Please study the following photos , taken today in the storage locker , which is in Nottingham .
We can arrange at extra cost for the table to be delivered and dropped off in kit form to a ground floor , quote based on distance and if possible .
We can also arrange at extra cost to have the table set back up , with refitted bed cloth or complete re-cloth .
Again costing based on distance . but we do have a list of fitters based around the country too if GCL Billiards cannot do the work .

*** PLEASE NOTE …The price is for the table only as described collected , any other mention of delivery and set up and re-clothing if requires is based on extra costings .
You do not have to use GCL Billiards …you are free to choose and use any billiard fitting and delivery firm in the country .

All the history of Thurston’s can be read from this excellent archive compiled by billiard Historian Peter Ainsworth and the E A Clare Billiard’s of Liverpool who now own Thurston’s .

Above is a mahogany one that is due renovation , photo by John Bennet Billiards ltd .
This is the same design but the oak one is in very good condition polish wise .

A mahogany Thurston no5 design flute turned leg in mahogany , John Bennett Billiards ltd supplied photo as an example of the same in oak .

NOW SOLD AT AUCTION ,Antique Life Pool Scoreboard 12 Hander , plus this has the elusive lower ball cabinet with Penny slots ,

SOLD AT AUCTION

We can take our time finding the right buyer for this Scoreboard .
They do not come up for sale as complete and in such good condition complete with lower ball cabinet and penny slots often like this .

The object of the game is you have three lives , revealed when you slide out each section , hidden is a star that you pull out if you lose all three lives , every player places a penny in their clot in the lower cabinet , if you lose the three lives , you buy a star life for an extra penny in your slot , as each slot can take up to two pennies, and you can see through the glass if a player has paid for an extra life .
The winner takes all the pennies and pays the marker a penny .

A fantastic talking point in your billiard / Snooker room , an appreciating antique and priced way below its true value when you compare what others are asking for them .

As a comparison on how competitive this sale is …….. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176914049044

NOW SOLD AT AUCTION antique Rotating cue rack Circa 1910/20s

NOW SOLD AT AUCTION LISTING .

Here we have a very nice Genuine Rotating cue rack
*Please note Cues are not included

Now you can buy a reproduction in low cost wood for around £500 and it would be very poor quality
I have seen cue racks like this Antique one advertised for as much as £1950 , but that is too much and way overpriced , , the true value is around £750 to £1000

SEE £1950 one here which is almost the same rack…….. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/205500976453

So my Client is asking the bottom price for this cue rack of just £750
Sale is due to a bereavement and the process of the deceased Estate
GCL Billiards is acting as the sales agent , and to place what we think is a come and get me price

photo below , please note scoreboard and cues not included
it is just the cue rack here that is for sale .

if anyone is interested in the George wright score board above the cues that is £150 and that’s a great price too .

And the two end billiard cushion markers are £60 each or £100 for both .

For sale 8ft raise and fall Billiard Dining table BARGAIN AT JUST £1750

Here we have a very nice raise and fall billiard dining table , priced so affordable as to allow for any costs in removing it for the new owner please no offers at this price .
Price does not include removal transportation delivery and set up , you will have to get a quote for this either from GCL Billiards or use any Billiard firm you wish closer to you .
The price is just for the table on its own no accessories , but balls and triangle are included .

As you can see the cloth is in very good condition and is ready to go

The table has a Riley click clack raise and fall system
Not sure if this is a Riley table or a table made using the patent Riley raise and fall system .
The tulip legs are not really a riley design on these type of tables .
Raise to playing height lift to hear click pin locate in raised position one end at a time , remove the table tops for play , level from screw thread shown here
To dine off a simple lift up to release the click pin slot and slowly lower down to dining height one end at a time , place a good water proof barrier on top of the cloth and then place the polished table top sections x5 to dine off .
Also place a thick heat pad dining cover before table cloth to protect the polish

The polished table tops in position and I am sure the seller will include that protective table cover which looks to be the heat thick pad type .

There looks to be a chip of wood out on top of one of the cushions . a bit of masking tape and stain it , then drop some brown wax into the damage and scrape with a razor blade to same level , then remove the tape , it looks worse here as it is a close up of a small chip out of wood .
Probably caused by the table top being put on miss aligned .
*Always put a protective spill cover over the playing surface before placing table tops on all these type of sectional table top diners .

*The table is located in Nottingham , and is part of a deceased Estate , as the only reason for sale .
This is a private sale direct from the seller , We always advise to view before buying .
It is the buyers reasonability to arrange the removal of the Billiard dining table .

*GCL Billiards has not seen the table in the flesh so to speak we are going from photos here .
Please shop around and see the price some are asking of these 8ft raise and fall billiard diners , then you will see what a Bargain the table is priced at .
