I have to make something very clear , an enquiry came in the other day to move a Full sized snooker table and a provisional date was set that the client required , but it was not a confirmed booking , in the meantime the following day someone else booked that date for Confirmed work to recover two pool tables
Later on that day the person who had provisionally booked came back to me to make the booking confirmed , when I had informed him that in the meantime that same day was booked out to someone else he became rather cross with me . I did offer two more dates a day before or two days after the date he required but they where no good to him .
Although he made it plain to me at the time of his enquiry that he was also speaking to other Billiard firms for quotes .
So this is how it is , if a confirmed date is not set , and you are just making enquiries for quotes and references and provisonal booking of a date and you also make it plain you are also speaking to other firms to quote for the same job, then please be aware you may provisionally book a day for future work on youre cue sports table until confirmed , but in the meantime if you have not confirmed that date by booking GCL BILLIARDS , then if that day is required for a definate booking of work by another client , then they get priority of that day .
In the Cue sports trade , we have to make sure that we have continuous work , and by leaving dates to one side when work is there to do on the promise of maybe we will go with you , then this is not going to happen , I have to be pretty clear on this from now on because of this recent scenario , as we do not want to be accused of letting people down when this is clearly not the case. if the person had confirmed he was going with GCL BILLIARDS at the time of enquiry instead of saying he was also thinking of a Birmingham firm to do the work then he would have got that date , but by leaving it open on a half promise of maybe I will go with you maybe I will not , then I will always take confirmed work over a provisional maybe bookings.
I hope clients will understand my stance on this , especialy if you run a business youreself , you can understand why it is important to take confirmed paying work rather than maybe work , after all it is what we are in business for, to work .
At the end of the day my Morgage lender is pleased to see my confirmed cheque at the end of each month rather than maybe I will pay you at the end of the month .
I have put these photo’s up for anyone looking for a 8ft Billiard / Snooker dining table.
The table is being sold as fully renovated by Brian and Peter at cheshire billiards , Brian has been a big help in setting my buisness up .
An 8ft dining table is rare to find for sale these days , most made where the 6ft and 7ft versions , this is a genuine Riley which has been fully stripped and repolished re rubber and re cover , the score board has been manufactured by Brian and Peters firm Cheshire Billiards , this scoreboard is an exact reproduction of a genuine Riley score board , and has a dual purpose , a concealed scoreboard , and a photo display when not in use .
the table is circa 1930s , Cheshire billiards have carefully left the original transfer of Riley still on the end cushion panel .
*Note* the pull out lifting handles on this 8ft , this is to make lifting up to playing height much easier , the smaller 6ft and 7ft versions did not have this feature , and many people used to lift the table up to playing height by the pocket plates , which damaged the table. you should always lift with these handles , of if the smaller table put youre hands under the end cushion , never lift by the pocket plate.
priced at £4995 and in oak , this table would make an ideal Christmas treat for the Family and a fantastic Dining table for the Home .
anyone interested please contact Brian or Peter at cheshire billiards 01724 852359
please inform them you spotted it on GCL BILLIARDS web site.
I am not on commision just returning a favoir for the help Brian has given me.
A dual height 6ft x 3ft Billiard dining table made by Rileys in 1933 , GCL BILLIARDS renovated the bed and cushions in 6811 Tournament cloth with new nets and leathers , plus a complete re- rubber in 1/2 x 1/2 inch L shape rubber , regreased the rise and fall lifters , and also refelted the undersides of the 4 table top leafs , and to round it off retipped the cue’s and supplied a set of pool balls, a complete overhaul of the table which had not been touched since 1933 when the table was manufactured by Riley.
The reason for dual lifting was to dine off in the low position and to play in the uplifted position.
The client bought this table in the 1960s for £12.50p where he rescued it from some students who where not treating it with respect , that would be around £650 in todays wages , the table did have a peak to value around 15 to 20 years ago when they where getting £2.500 for a 6ft version , today they have dropped to around £1500 to £2000 renovated depending on leg design and wood used mahogany / oak , some do still fetch nearer the £2500 if they are of the rare model such as serpentine top design .
This one has the turned and fluted leg , the rubber was dated 1933 when we stripped it down and being as no other tack holes in the bed or cushions we know it had never been recovered since 1933. earlier models had buttons or Brass head coffin screws in place of the slide in panel of this later design .
The most sought after size is an 8ft which had two pull out handles at each end to help lift the table upto playing height , these 8fts in pristine condition are priced upto £4995.

This week we are that busy that we have to work on Saturday and Sunday ,
we start the week off on Saturday with a Pool table sale and delivery ,
on Sunday a match table with steel blocks recover in Hainsworth match cloth and new nets and leathers ,in Nottinghamshire
Monday another match table with steel block cushions recover in 6811 T strachan and nets and leathers ,in Lincolnshire
Tuesday , strip down and load a full size table for London and work on Riley dining cushions re rubber in the workshop , in Sandiacre.
Wednesday A re- rubber full size cushions in Derby
Thursday Recover full size cushions in Derby and finish Riley dining cushions off in workshop
Friday , Riley dining table recover in Derby.
you may note that we do not recover the cushions on the same day as a re rubber if useing UK made northern rubber , this is because I like to leave over night for the glue to realy bond , this prevents the rubber being pushed off the wooden block it is glued to when you tension the cloth over it as we recover the cushion .
Some of the lower cost import rubber has a canvas back to it and this can be recovered in the same day as a re rubber . as the canvas backing tends to bond quicker than Northern rubber which has no canvas backing , I always recommend UK made Northern rubber made in Retford Nottinghamshire, rather than imported rubber as it lasts much longer , upto 25 years before the next re rubber . imported rubber can go off within only 5 years use.
Yesterday we completed a re-location of a full size snooker table from Mansfield to Lincoln, the client is highly delighted with the work , and he is delighted that he found the table at a very reasonable price and local to him through our search for sale system which is in our blog section.
If you are looking for a table , be it a full size like this one or a 3/4 or an 8ft quality made snooker dining table , then we have all these for sale direct from the seller , no middle men fees you deal direct with the seller , all we ask is you consider GCL BILLIARDS for any relocating work and any renovations and spares etc .
1st photo of the table in it’s Mansfield home , before dismantle and any work to cushion , Re rubber etc .
on installation 2nd photo , we where met with a house that was being renovated and extended , with three steps down from one level to another , we managed with a little help from the Builders who where still on site to get the slates down the three steps.
a photo of the table before leveling and reclothing , note the huega floor tiles , we always recommend these for snooker rooms as you can replace the carpet tiles but never have to replace the unwalked on tiles under the table , saving you the costly expense of having a table dismantled every time you want to replace a carpet or floor covering .
The 3rd photo of Completed install of table , which had the following work carried out , New Northern rubber fitted to modern template openings , New 6811 tournament west of England strachan cloth , New nets leathers and ball rails , one full set of cushion buttons turned , plus a new set of accessories of Scoreboard , 5 cues ,2 push on telescopic extenders , 2 sets of Aramith balls of 1 set engraved pool and 1 set of snooker premier quality , heavy duty dust cover , all rests and hooks , New dowsing Billiard Iron , pure bristle brush , 2x free standing chrome cue racks etc , and a new set of modern lighting .
We have a client who is looking to sell on a 8ft x 4ft Sir William Bentley pool and snooker, dual purpose and dual height dining table, which also has the added bonus feature of a table tennis top. We have no photo as yet but will post as soon as we get them.
The table is located in the Scottish borders, but GCL BILLIARDS can provide a quote to pick the table up and deliver.
Here are a few designs that Sir William Bentley have made in the past. I am not yet sure if the table in question is of the same design as one of these or it maybe a copy of the traditional Riley raise and fall diner with turned and fluted legs, but you can be sure it is of the same build quality. Costing nearly £4,000 delivered and installed when new.
Dining tables should have a dual height format whereby the table in its low postion is for dining and in its raised position it is for playing the game of snooker or pool on.
I am awaiting instructions from our clients as to the price they require for the table but it is in their benefit and any future buyer to get it advertised ASAP for the christmas market, hence the rushed advert. I feel this table would make an excellent Christmas present for a house. A nice dining table for the wife which would seat 10 maybe 12 people and a cue sports table of decent size for the husband. I am told the table is in immaculate condition.
Please note that the photos are from libary photo stock. Please await actual photos for the exact design.
