Just been informed 13/09/2018 the table is now sold
We have a client based at Keyworth in Nottingham who wishes to sell their Orme & Sons 8ft snooker table .
House move forces reluctant sale , been the in the family over 20 years and much cherished .
as you can see a very sturdy table made to exact build quality as a full size table .
3 section slate bed , 6 legs so no sagging in center span , and bolt into slate bed not wood screwed like many 8fts for sale on Ebay .
this is a quality table made out of mahogany and has a slate size of 8ft by 4ft 1.5 inch .
the table looks to be upstairs , but 8ft’s have smaller slates and weigh much less than a full size table , getting downstairs should not be a problem for a Firm .
all costs of removal is down to the buyer , if you wanted a quote for dismantle and deliver and set up , please get in touch with Geoff at GCL billiards for a quote .
ROOM SIZE I recommend is at least approx 18ft by 14ft 2 inch for comfortable cue room , you may get away with a smaller room if you use a small cue for cushions shots .
you may require a re-cover again Geoff at CCL Billiards could quote for this using quality strachan 6811 tournament 30 oz cloth
but you could have it set up with original cloth and get one or two more years out of it and then upgrade to new cloth , spread the cost a bit , buy the tbale one year and set up , next year re-cover ? .
Snooker and pool balls included as is the light shade a couple of rests and cues and triangle and scoreboard .
My client is looking for just £650 for this quality made 8ft , you could spend double that on a wood screw on cushioned table with 4 legs , table made this way today would be in excess of £2750
£650 is a come and get me price .
I have had a few inquiries for a quality 8ft well here is one that I would recommend buying .
All inquiries for this table to Geoff at GCL billiards by email email@example.com or contact from phone number on GCL Billiards web site .
I will put any genuine interested person in direct contact with the seller .
Snooker and pool table work used to be a seasonal thing a few years ago
we used to experience a lull or a slack period mid summer and just after Christmas and New year
but if recent years are anything to go by and the fact that Pool is now our number one sport over Snooker in cue sports pastimes .
Then it is no surprise work coming in has no high or low spots , we are not experiencing any lull or slack period in work .
and I give full warning that we cannot take anymore work on until September and that month is starting to fill in as we speak
On the snooker side we have our regular clients and on average visit clubs every year for either a re-stretch of bed cloths or re-covers .
our private home clients we average a visit every 5 years , for service re-level , re-stretch work or major work like re-rubber and re-cover or house move and the table goes too .
We get some tough job’s too like fitting abnormal rubber size due to clients requirements to unconventional block work
We are often re-rubbering and opening or closing up pocket openings in the process of a re-rubber
but a lot of our work is now taken up with the popular sport of Pool
many club’s have extended their pool lounges , and installed more pool tables than snooker tables these days .
some have a few American 9ft 9 ball tables too
We do a high volume of pool table maintenance these days .
and when it comes to pool tables , the lower cost in cloth and labour per full size mean they have work done in large quantities , and more regular .
sometimes all the tables in the room are re-covered in one go .
some club’s have a more balanced view and ratio of pool to snooker is pretty even
This club used to have all snooker now they just have three , and 7 uk pool , and one Chinese 9 ball table .
their is always the exception when it is FREE to play in with your Holiday fee at Butlins .
But since this photo 2 have gone and two more are in the pipe line to go , as improvements to form a sports lounge is implimented
we may see some American pool tables in the future as they look to improve the different venues in Butlins .
I am informed they may have plans to turn this American 9 ball hall into a 9 table UK pool hall .
and move some of these tables over to the Sports bar / Snooker room part .
they say this at Butlins every year for the last 10 years , but the time will come that it will happen .
now and again we get one of these to renovate , not so easy to work on as it is all in miniature
some cushions come like this
we refurb to this , using larger rubber .
and the end result after a re-rubber , see we really know our stuff !
after 42 years personal experience Geoff Large of GCL billiards is one of the best fitters in the country , not that there are a lot of experienced fitters about these days .
due to none training up and retirement , the specialist fitters are more hard to find .
and it is going to get worse as in 6 years time I may even retire .
Below is a few photos of the type of work that we come across .
just some of the bad workmanship I come across in the next few photo’s
these are typical bad workmanship that I come across .
as I have said I am now taking bookings for September , I am worth waiting for , all I can say is the above bad workmanship is still being done out there ,
it is pot luck if you get a fitter with high standards and the ethics that have been passed down from fitter to fitter in my history .
so please wait for us to become available and book early for work .
Today I have been over to Beeston in Nottingham to a club that I have been working on their tables for over 38 years .
They relocated to an old building in the town when they built the new Tesco’s around 12 to 14 years ago .
both tables are Burroughs and watts steel match cushioned circa 1920s ,
Rigidus frame model where the centre legs are closer together and not equal spacing with end legs .
Both tables will be re-covered in Strachan 6811 tournament 30 oz cloth .
the last time I did them was in 2013 so they have lasted close on 5 years .
this club does not get as much use as other club’s , the relocation took them from a prime spot near the high Road to the outskirts of town .
and the car park is now very small compared to the old club , where you could park up let the Wife go shopping while you have a frame or two of snooker .
you may note all the cue cases on the wall ,Not many club’s do this now .
Members have a hook and sometimes a chain they can interlink each case and padlock it to the chain .
Many club’s do not like their walls cluttered like this , but this club still has this facility for members to store their cues on the club premises .
Just spent last week working at Butlins Skegness in the Green Baize club .
three complete re-covers , one replacement Bed , 3 sets of nets and leathers and odd nets and ball rails to replace .
This week I have two full size snooker tables to re-rubber and re-cover and a 7ft pool table at RAF Cranwell Sgts Mess .
they are in a bit of a mess having had low cost rubber bad rebound value fitted last time , and all cloth slips nailed in by a well known local Midlands firm they used last time .
I am putting them right fitting top quality Northern Rubber and Strachan Tournament 6811 cloth 30 oz and new nets and leathers .
The pool table has rock hard cushions so I am replacing these too
You only get a good table if you use Good materials , so be aware of lower quotes and always ask what rubber and cloth they are using , and look at the goods when they fit it .
fitters who tend to use lower grade goods also do a lower grade workmanship , they have no pride or morals , so be aware , you get what you pay for , there is no such thing as low cost quality materials and workmanship .
Northern rubber comes in packs of six with stamped date of manufacture on each rubber
this is an old photo for an example of what to look for , I fitted November 2017 made cushions .
the cloth will have this transfer on the underside
also two blue lines embroidered in on one edge .
Nets and leathers I use are top quality and supplied by Peradon .
all the materials I use are top quality , I cannot barter the price down on quality goods .
and firms that do undercut me do use inferior materials and bad workmanship such as nailing in cushion cloth slips ,
as proved today when I stripped down the first table in the RAF site .
And I am finding by showing the client these things I get repeat work from them .
they Know GCL billiards is a firm to trust their cue sports tables with .
No corners cut , and no inferior materials used .
Just got back from holiday to 174 emails and phone answer service full of messages on both land line and mobile .
it has taken me three days to sort it all out .
I was supposed to be working on my house this week but I have sat in the office for 3 days sorting this back log of inquiries that have come in while on holiday out .
Sorry if I have missed anyone out , if you feel that you have not been contacted due to phone answering service full , then please get back in touch via email system rather than the phone .
But the good news for us is we are getting very busy again , not that we have ever been slack for the last 6 years .
In fact business is booming .
but just to keep people in the loop requiring work , please try and book me 6 to 8 weeks in advance
I am busy for a reason with 42 years personal experience as a time served billiards fitter , and my ethics of quality work ,
this seems to be what people require when they are looking for a Billiards fitter to carry out work on their tables .
and word of mouth is a powerful tool too , many of my new clients have been referred by previous work that I have carried out .
at the rate work is coming in I will be ready for a another break around September for a week .
do not forget we also move the odd table for people , it is not all about working on site only .
here are just a few of the quality and type of work that we have carried out
so please book early for work , I do work the odd Saturday if it helps , but tend to keep these week end days for local work rather than traveling .
Not very often we get one for sale in this condition as a private sale .
Direct from seller no middlemen fees .
Table is based in Sheffield and is upstairs location .
A recently refurbished condition to a high standard 9ft Mawson of Leeds billiard table for sale
some very nice flame mahogany to frame and turned legs
the table looks to be in superb condition and the cloth could be refitted back on as a normal re-stretch
the wood work is in Superb condition , with new nets and leathers also having been replaced .
E Mawson of Leeds is the maker , just look at that flame mahogany on the end frame .
a three section slate bed 9ft table , with double muntin centre supports
Mawson made quality tables .
Rare to find a date on any table , but this paper transfer sticker says Nov 1895
now this could be the manufacture date or it could be a table move work to another property .
one thing for certain top plated billiard tables where from a period of early 1800 to 1897 .
but I think the date of 1895 is bang on for this design and slate bed table .
GCL billiards will be happy to give anyone a quote for dismantle loading and delivery and setting back up of this table .
this table is a private sale .
the table is up for a NONE NEGOTIABLE price of £1000 direct from the seller .
HE IS IN NO RUSH TO SELL and offers will be refused , the table is a bargain at £1000 in this condition .
Try finding a table like this from a dealer at this price .
( DISMANTLE AND DELIVERY EXTRA ) contact Geoff for a price with your post code .
all inquiries through Geoff at GCL billiards , I will forward any genuine inquiry onto the seller .
